New Moon — Caitra Śukla Pratipadā (Ugādi) 19 March 2026
This New Moon does not begin the year in clarity, but in karmic alignment. It marks the conjunction of Sun (Sūrya) and Moon (Chandra), taking place in Pisces (Mīna Rāśi), within Uttarabhādrapadā nakṣatra, ruled by Saturn (Śani). Ugadi follows this New Moon, arising at Caitra Śukla Pratipadā, where the lunar year begins not in full freedom, but within karmic alignment — a condition where action, intellect, and desire unfold within the containment of kāla sarpa yogaḥ, yet receive direction through the dṛṣṭi of Jupiter (Guru).

New Moon — Caitra Śukla Pratipadā (Ugādi)
19 March 2026
Uttarabhādrapadā is symbolised by the fore legs of a funeral cot, representing support at the threshold between endings and transition. Its deity, Ahirbudhnya, the serpent of the deep, relates to hidden knowledge and inner depth. This nakṣatra brings qualities of discipline, insight, endurance, and a tendency toward introspection or withdrawal. It supports learning, writing, and clear expression, but also inclines toward stillness and, at times, inactivity.
The condition of Saturn (Śani), as the nakṣatra lord, is therefore central. Saturn (Śani) is placed in Pisces (Mīna Rāśi) together with Venus (Śukra), who is exalted (uccha) in this Rāśi (Mīna Rāśi). Saturn is exalted in Libra (Tulā), a sign ruled by Venus (Śukra), reflecting a natural affinity between these two grahas.
Through this conjunction, Saturn (Śani) gains some support and refinement. However, Venus (Śukra) does not operate freely. Even though Venus is exalted, its expression becomes restrained by Saturn. What would normally be flowing and expansive becomes more controlled, structured, and limited.
At the same time, a larger configuration frames this New Moon: kāla sarpa yogaḥ (all grahas contained within the Rāhu–Ketu axis). With all grahas placed between Rāhu in Aquarius (Kumbha) and Ketu in Leo (Siṁha), the chart forms graha-bandhana, meaning the planets operate within a confined karmic structure rather than expressing freely.
Within this configuration, the conjunction of Mars (Maṅgala) with Rāhu forms kuja sthaṁbana (obstruction of Mars). Mars represents action, direction, and initiative. When joined with Rāhu, action becomes disturbed — energy is present, but lacks direction and control.
This can lead to impulsive actions, misjudgment, or poorly timed effort, especially when supported by other factors. Internally, this combination is said to affect Saturn (Śani), placing strain on prāṇa — the vital force sustaining breath, vitality, and physical strength. As a result, endurance and resistance may be reduced.
According to Parāśari principles, when Mars (Maṅgala) conjoins Rāhu, any graha connected to them carries this disturbance into its own domain. This effect becomes stronger if repeated in divisional charts and tends to manifest during relevant planetary periods.
This is further intensified by Mercury (Budha), which is retrograde and also conjoined Rāhu. Mercury governs thinking, reasoning, and decision-making. Under these conditions, clarity weakens, and actions may be taken without proper reflection. This directly affects judgment and decision-making at the beginning of the year.
These effects are strengthened because this occurs in Aquarius (Kumbha), ruled by Saturn (Śani). On 25.03.2026, Sun (Sūrya) comes into close proximity with Saturn in Pisces, leading to astāṅgata (combustion) — where Saturn becomes overpowered by the Sun and loses strength and independence.
This reduces Saturn’s ability to stabilise and regulate, increasing overall pressure. Some relief comes from Venus (Śukra), which softens Saturn’s influence. However, this support is temporary, as Venus moves into Aries (Meṣa Rāśi) on 26.03.2026, where it comes under further influence of the Sun (Sūrya).
Rāhu amplifies whatever it influences. In Aquarius (Kumbha), this amplification relates to collective systems — groups, networks, and communication — where confusion or misinformation may increase.
Opposite this, Ketu in Leo (Siṁha) brings detachment from identity, authority, and established structures, including belief systems, which may be questioned or weakened.
Taken together, this New Moon shows a clear pattern: a deep, inward focus in Pisces, shaped by Saturn, refined but restrained through Venus, operating within a larger karmic structure, and activated through pressure on action and intellect.
This is not a configuration of ease, but of alignment under pressure — where action must be corrected, and intellect cannot be relied upon blindly.
